Diva Nancy Wilson was among modern-day music's near fashionable and sultry vocalists; patch oftentimes crossing over into the pop and R&B markets -- and regular hosting her have telecasting smorgasbord plan -- she remained charles Herbert Best known as a nothingness performer, famed for her put to work aboard figures including Cannonball Adderley and George Shearing. Born February 20, 1937, in Chillicothe, OH, Wilson first attracted posting playing the nut club circuit in nearby Columbus; she apace earned a maturation reputation among jazz players and fans, and she was recording regularly by the later '50s, finally signing to Capitol and issue LPs including 1959's Like in Love and Nancy Wilson with Billy May's Orchestra. Her dates with Shearing, including 1960's The Swingin's Mutual, coagulated her standing as a gift on the uprise, and her subsequent work with Adderley -- arguably her finest recordings -- further cemented her ontogenesis fame and reputation.

In the days to follow, however, Wilson ofttimes affected forth from idle words, practically to the mortification of purists; she made legion albums, many of them properly categorised as pop and R&B outings, and toured extensively, appearing with everyone from Nat King Cole and Sarah Vaughan to Ruth Brown and LaVern Baker. She regular hosted her have Emmy-winning variety series for NBC, The Nancy Wilson Show, and was a haunt client performing artist on early programs; hits of the time period included "Assure Me the Truth," "How Glad I Am," "Peace of Mind," and "Forthwith, I'm a Woman." Regardless of how far afield she travelled, Wilson always retained her connections to the malarkey reality, and in the 1980s, she returned to the music with a payback, working intimately with performers including Hank Jones, Art Farmer, Ramsey Lewis, and Benny Golson. By the nineties, she was a favorite among the "new grownup contemporary" mart, her expressive style ideally suited to the format's penchant for succulent, amorous ballads; she too hosted the Jazz Profiles series on National Public Radio.

In the early 2000s, Wilson recorded deuce albums with Ramsey Lewis for Narada (2002's Meant to Be and 2003's Simple Pleasures). Her 2004 album R.S.V.P. (Rarified Songs, Very Personal) was a portmanteau word of straight-ahead malarky and ballads, similar to her next record, 2006's Turned to Blue, which, like R.S.V.P., used a dissimilar player for each lead. In 2005, Capitol released a three-part series to pay testimonial to Wilson's contributions to music in the '50s and '60s: Guess Who I Saw Today: Nancy Wilson Sings Songs of Lost Love, Save Your Love for Me: Nancy Wilson Sings the Great Blues Ballads, and The Great American Songbook.

Tom Waits awarded key to Texas city

Tom Waits was awarded an official Key to the City of El Paso, Texas yesterday (June 25).

The legendary singer was not expecting the honour when a uniformed officer walked on-stage at El Paso's Plaza Theatre, where he was performing.

??I paid all those tickets,? Waits quipped when he saw the officer, adding ??She was dead when I got there.?

El Paso councilwoman Susie Boyd then came onto the stage and handed Waits a plaque, which held a key to the city.

Waits, visibly moved, said, ??This is a first for me, a real first.?

Waits will continue his Gloom And Doom tour playing shows throughout the Midwest before heading to Europe for a string of summer dates.

The Bee Gees: 'We might return'

The Bee Gees have said that they might return to the stage after a five-year hiatus.

The band stopped performing under the Bee Gees name when bandmember Maurice Gibb died in 2003.

The two remaining members, Maurice's brothers Robin and Barry Gibb, subsequently said they would no longer use the Bee Gees name, but last performed together in Miami 2006.

However, it seems they may have changed their minds. Speaking to BBC News Robin Gibb said he was very much open to a comeback if his brother, Barry Gibb, agreed.

Robin Gibb said: "When or where is to be decided at a time when he says yes."

He also explained that he was unsure whether the duo would return under the Bee Gees name, saying they were going through a tough time when they decided not to use it anymore.

"We decided that on an emotional level at that point," he said. "Whether or not that will change, we don't know. It's a personal thing and we'll do it when the time is right.

"So it's not a no, it's just emotionally when it's right."

Roman Polanski - Polanski Film Changed In Legal Row

A documentary about shamed filmmaker ROMAN POLANSKI has been altered after complaints from Los Angeles court officials about allegations made in the film.

A statement regarding a judge's action in the documentary Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, which focuses on the director's 1978 trial for sex with an underage girl, angered members of L.A.'s Superior Court.

French-born Polanski was convicted of the statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl, but fled to Paris before he could be sentenced for the crime.

The film accused a judge of telling Polanski's lawyers in 1997 that the 74-year-old could return to the U.S. and escape prison if he agreed to have his sentencing hearing televised.

Los Angeles Superior Court issued a statement on Monday (09Jun08) slamming the assertion as "as a complete fabrication without any basis in fact".

And bosses at U.S. TV company HBO, the company behind the documentary, have now agreed to alter the film to reflect the court's complaints.

Polanski has not returned to the U.S. since 1978 and American prosecutors have vowed to arrest him if he ever sets foot back in the country.

Sienna Miller and Rhys Ifans take a "break"

Mike Myers - Myers Created Guru Voice To Cheer Sick Pals Up

MIKE MYERS created the voice for his new movie guru PITKA to cheer ill friends up.

The funnyman has been working on his The Love Guru character for years and came up with the comic spiritual leader's Indian voice in an effort to give sick pals a laugh.

He explains, "The Seat of The Soul was a book I read that I saw on Oprah and I loved it. This is a guy who was a green beret and he was also a physicist.

"When I talked about what I was reading philosophically this mellifluous voice would emerge.

"My friends loved it and, in fact, would ask me to call them when they were not feeling well in that voice: `You have a cold? This is the universe telling you to be with yourself because the only way out is in.'"

John Lydon - Rotten Never Playing Glastonbury Again

Rocker JOHNNY ROTTEN has vowed his band THE SEX PISTOLS will never play legendary music festival Glastonbury again - because it's "too big".

The punk legends reunited last year (07) for a series of live dates, which included a summer appearance at the British event.

But Rotten - real name John Lydon - insists the God Save The Queen hitmakers will from now on snub the famed Glastonbury stage in favour of smaller venues.

He says, "Glastonbury is too big. We played it last year but it was too much.

"We're just doing (touring) Europe this time."
